What is Personal Sustainability:
Sustainability is not just about the environment and "saving the planet". It is also about the inner self, a personal sustainability that is at the root of our very being. Too many of us find ourselves on a tread mill. We work to pay the bills and maybe to save for a retirement that comes way too late. When we finally get ahead of the game we discover that our parents have passed on, and our children are in a similar race to the future and don't have time for us. Our friendships are fleeting and our siblings are out of contact. Our neighbours are strangers and our community is just a place to live.

Life offers so much more. Having the time to care for the things we love and to love the people we care for is a critical component of global sustainability. How can we appreciate and then act to preserve our natural surroundings when we don't have the time to love them? How can we know that reducing our impact on the environment is the most precious gift we can give our children when they have become strangers to us? How can we learn from the mistakes of the past if we ignore the lessons of our parents?

As with nature itself it is an organic process that comes down to simple choices. Every day choices that we make from the moment our feet hit the floor in the morning. Choices that seem insignificant but like the drops of rain that fill the ocean will have a profound impact on the sustainability of our species.
